Gabby Logan’s son Reuben snubbed England and Wales to pursure his dream of playing for Scotland . The 20-year-old rugby player previously represented the England U18 team before switching his allegiance . BBC Sport presenter Gabby is set to host coverage of England’s World Cup clash against Ghana on Tuesday. Thomas Tuchel’s side will look to book their place in the knockout rounds with a victory at the Boston Stadium.
The Match of the Day host was born in England but is the daughter of Welsh football icon Terry Yorath. During her own sporting career, Gabby represented Wales in rhythmic gymnastics at the 1990 Commonwealth Games . In 2001, the TV host married Scotland rugby star Kenny Logan and the couple welcomed twins Reuben and Lois four years later. The family’s background gave Reuben, whose rugby career has attracted significant attention , several options when deciding which nation to represent.

The decision came after he had made two appearances for Northampton Saints. Reuben made a similar choice to Gabby by following his father’s roots. Former Scotland winger Kenny earned 70 caps for his country, scoring 20 tries, during his playing days. “I was immensely proud to put on the shirt,” Reuben told Scottish Rugby after making his U20 debut. “I was obviously really happy with having that experience. That’s one that I’ve thought about for a while so, yeah, it was amazing.” On his previous decision to play for England U18s, he added: “I spoke to dad about it, obviously, I had to get his approval that I was allowed to put on the rose, even if it was just for a few times.
It was good for my development to be there but I always had in the back of my mind the main goal, which is obviously [playing at Murrayfield]. “Every person that puts on the thistle at any level wants to play for Scotland and that’s the end goal to play on that pitch. For me, making my family proud as well, and I feel like that’s something I’ve wanted to do since I was a kid so I feel like there’s no bigger achievement for myself than playing for Scotland at Murrayfield.” Despite being focused on realising his dream, the Sale Sharks flanker was recently asked to switch to Wales. Gabby revealed that Reuben had faced requests to declare for Wales during his grandfather Terry's funeral earlier this year. In an appearance on Sam Warburton’s SW7 Academy podcast , BBC presenter Gabby said: “I’m very proud of my Welsh heritage and recently we lost my dad.
"We had a lot of Welsh people at the service and a fantastic choir came up from Cardiff and there was 50 of them and they’d had a pint or two and were asking Reuben if he’d consider switching allegiances.” She continued: “To be fair to Reuben, he’s been Scottish since he was born.” Get the latest World Cup news straight to your inbox by signing up to our Make Football Great Again newsletter now! When recalling her husband Kenny’s reaction to their son playing for England U18s, Gabby joked: “Kenny was not quite sure how to cheer for him that day. “He used to just shout, ‘Come on Reuben’ and I’m like, ‘You can’t just say come on Reuben’ and he was like, ‘I can’t say come on England.’” Reuben joined Sale Sharks on a two-year deal ahead of the 2025/26 season. The 20-year-old featured in four PREM Rugby games as he continued to progress in his fledgling career.
