A recent $3,500 donation from the Campbell River Italian Cultural Society will help Campbell River Special Olympic bocce players train for the national games this summer. Gino Panziera, Gio Alberti, Louise Belin and Franco Panziera, members of the CR Italian Cultural Society, attended a practice to present the cheque, which was received by athlete Bryan Jorgensen. The Campbell River Bocce team needed a walled bocce court, as this is the type of court used at their National Games, which will be held in Medicine Hat this August. Bocce Head Coach Ann Jorgensen is very appreciative of the new court. “It’s important that our athletes have a chance to practice with this style of court,” she said, “so they will be ready when they compete at Nationals.” Campbell River Special Olympians will be joining athletes from across B.C. to compete in an array of sports in the 2026 Special Olympics Canada Summer Games in Medicine Hat, Alberta, from Aug. 11-15.
