Langley’s own Brie Fransen joins the rest of the Canadian women’s volleyball team on a quest to be part of the 2028 Olympics. The continental road to the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games begins Friday with the 2026 NORCECA Women’s Continental Championship in the Dominican Republic. Canada is among the eight national teams competing for the continental title and three berths to the 2027 FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship. After the championship in Santo Domingo concludes, the top four teams in the final standings of the NORCECA championship – excluding the U.S. as host country of the Olympics – will advance to the NORCECA Continental Qualifier.
That phase will also be held in Santo Domingo, on Aug. 28 and 29, with one Olympic berth at stake. The United States, Canada, Mexico, and Trinidad and Tobago make up Pool A, while host Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Cuba, and Costa Rica are in Pool B. The preliminary round will be played from Friday to Sunday, Aug. 21 to 23. The winners of each pool will advance directly to the semifinals, while the teams finishing second and third will compete in the quarterfinals.
The quarterfinals will be played on Monday, Aug. 24, followed by the semifinals on Tuesday. The continental championship will conclude on Wednesday, with the classification and medal matches. Fransen is a Trinity Western University alum, along with teammate and fellow TWU grad Hilary Howe of Calgary, who both helped Team Canada get to this point in play.
