Peter O'Mahony is kept as busy as ever despite retiring from professional rugby last year. The sports star said goodbye to the rugby pitch last year after he retired professionally at the end of the 2025 season. Over the course of his 15-year career, he captained both the Irish international and Munster teams.
However, he has had a lot going on since then. "We are great," he told RSVP Magazine of family life. "I took roughly six months off and we really enjoyed last summer. We were also a long way down the line of the new lifestyle brand and lots of other things we were planning on getting stuck into, so we’re back being very busy now." Peter shares three children with his wife Jessica; 10-year-old Indie, eight-year-old Theo and Ralph, who is five.
Despite their busy lives, having a work/life balance has never been an issue. "We’ve always worked hard and we schedule in times when appropriate to take some downtime and enjoy ourselves," he said. "But you can only do that when you’ve put a lot of work in." The kids are getting older, which is bittersweet. "It’s great to see them growing up," said Peter.
"It’s getting harder in other ways, but it’s really enjoyable. Our youngest is starting primary school in September so that’s a big milestone for us." Despite Peter's rugby skills, he isn't pushing a passion for the sport onto his kids: "This isn’t something that I’m overly driving. The two boys play and both enjoy it and that’s the main thing. Indie is very driven and has lots of interest in sporting activities as well.
She’s probably closest to me personality-wise as well. Let’s just say she doesn’t take fools lightly." It comes as Peter and Jessica's lifestyle brand, sow-sé, launched in July after five years of quiet development. Created by Peter and Jessica O’Mahony, the husband-and-wife team shares the belief that a garden, like a new business, is worth building slowly. The brand name was inspired by the word “sow,” to plant and begin, and “sé,” the Irish word for six, a nod to Peter’s rugby number.
Hexagons, found throughout nature in honeycombs, flowers and fruit, run through the collection’s design with the roman numeral VI sitting quietly beneath the brand mark. The collection features a thoughtfully curated range of Home, Garden and Family products inspired by Peter and Jessica’s passion for gardening, nature and everyday living. sow-sé’s tagline, “where knowledge grows,” points to what comes next. Alongside the product range, the brand will share seasonal growing guidance and stories for people who care about their home, their garden and the life that happens in between. Shop the range at sowse.ie .
